Mexico needs far more military personnel to protect its citizens

It’s time the president of Mexico admitted that the country needs far more military personnel to protect its citizens. For too long, Mexicans have remained quiet, not wanting to be labeled as anti-“La 4T” (a term referring to the Fourth Transformation). Many have waited patiently for these important reforms to be implemented. However, now that such reforms are nearly guaranteed, Mexicans are increasingly demanding that the government do more to ensure public safety.

The rising levels of violence across the country have become impossible to ignore, with criminal organizations operating with near impunity in some regions. Citizens feel abandoned, caught between organized crime and insufficient law enforcement efforts. While the government has implemented some measures to address this crisis, they have been inadequate in providing real protection for vulnerable communities. Strengthening the military’s presence, particularly in high-risk areas, is no longer an option but a necessity.

Moreover, ensuring public safety is essential for advancing the reforms of La 4T itself. Economic growth, social development, and political stability are all contingent on a secure environment where citizens can thrive without fear. Failing to address the security crisis undermines the very goals of the Fourth Transformation. Mexicans are right to demand immediate and effective action from their leaders—a commitment to prioritizing the well-being of the people above all else.
